I've had my eye on this project for quite some time now and I cannot wait to catch the short film, 'Spring Breakers', directed by Harmony Korine. It stars one of my favourite bad-ass Disney girl, Vanessa Hudgens (with James Franco, Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine also).
Reasons being:
- I love Vanessa. She's a hot, reckless thing, I can't quit her.
- I also love V's and the other girls' healthy image, with a bit of weight on them. Harmony casted healthy figures for his leading ladies - rejecting Emma Robert's underweight physique and opting for Ashley Benson. It's a very realistic portrayal for the purposes of the film in itself, which sets out to encapsulate the youth of our generation.
- The 'spring break' feel aligns itself with my own stage in teen life at the moment. Every day post-HSC literally feels like a holiday, even when juggling uni on a weekly basis. But also the friendship, partying, substance abusing and vulnerability aspects of becoming an adult emerging into the world, I think Harmony has aimed to reflect perfectly for us.
- The threesome scene with Vanessa, Ashley and James looks too appealing to miss. I was secretly rooting for a Vanessa-Franco affair of sorts, shame she has a boyfriend, though Austin Butler is definitely worth the missed op.
- Bikinis and guns throughout the scenes can do no wrong.
- General curiosity for how these actresses tackle such different roles to what they're used to, even for James Franco adopting the character of Alien.
- And finally, I've miss the Skins series, and this seems to follow something along the same lines.
I highly doubt it will be anything other than amazing, but hope this movie doesn't disappoint.
